What happened to Laci Green happens to PoC, more specifically queer PoC and WoC, every damn day on Tumblr. The only people who seem to give a shit about it though, are other PoC. Most white folks, more specifically White Feminists™, don’t give a damn about what happens to us. Look at how many of them have reblogged Laci’s post where she details her harassment and have said how “bad” it was and how they “don’t condone” what happened and how they hope she’s “ok.” Shit, they’ve even made posts declaring Laci Green the “most influential voice of our generation.”

On the flip side, look at how many of them have done the same for any of the PoC bloggers who have detailed the harassment they’ve faced. I bet you won’t see one. If you do, they’re probably telling the PoC who’s being harassed to “turn off anon” and “stop assuming they won’t get anon hate.” As a matter of fact, there is a post by a PoC blogger detailing the extremely racist and violent death threat they received and they’re being told exactly that. How many white people or White Feminists™, have jumped to their defense? I’m willing to put money on that number being extremely small.

The moral of this story is, if you’re a PoC on Tumblr, you get no sympathy if you get harassed. Instead, you’re more likely to get blamed for it and if you stand up for yourself you’ll just get more hate and your harassers will be viewed as the victims. If you’re white and receive harassment, the whole world will stop to tell you how wonderful you are and Tumblr support will bend over backwards to protect you.
